If you don't want to transfer, the memory card can be read by any notebook with card reader directly. Transferring is also fast, just copy paste file. New camera with HD quality is a lot better than miniDV and the file is directly useable. You need to buy memory card separately but you can use the one for your DSLR or starts small.
